Belaad: The Land of Swords and Quills
Players take roles in a historical setting where three factions vie for control of knowledge: a monarchy seeking to recruit scholars, a popular movement protecting them, and a secretive sect that targets scholars for assassination. Teams consist of distinct characters with unique abilities; one player may control the assassin faction when player count is odd. Gameplay centers on playing action cards from a four-card hand to activate abilities, strengthen characters, gain or steal coins, wage war, and hire scholars. Characters are upgraded by placing tokens on their mats to boost their faction’s economy, military power, or influence in recruiting scholars. Scoring combines scientific points from recruited scholars and military points from wars across four eras; the highest total wins.
