Darwin's Journey: Fireland Expansion

2023 · Expansion for Base-game

Darwin's Journey: Fireland Expansion

Adds a new map and an alternative board layout that introduces time-based mechanics and expanded exploration options. Includes new player components—ships, explorers, discs, special action tiles, crew and objective cards—and a suite of adventure cards and tokens for land and sea encounters. Time tiles and seals create temporal constraints that affect planning and scoring, while observation tokens and additional player aids adjust endgame evaluation and player choices. Designed to integrate with the base game’s exploration and crew-management systems, offering new strategic decisions and scenarios without changing core rules.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

When exactly do I have to go on an Adventure?

You go on an Adventure whenever your Explorer or Ship crosses a golden ribbon containing an Adventure Token, drawing the matching Land or Ocean card. You must immediately choose and pay for one reward option; if you cannot pay either option, discard the card without rewards and leave the token on the board (p. 7).

Do I remove an Adventure Token after completing an Adventure?

Only the reward option showing an Adventure Token icon removes the token you crossed. Keep it in your player area for endgame scoring; removing it prevents future players from triggering an Adventure at that ribbon (p. 7).

What happens if I spend more Time than my track can hold?

If spending Time would move your marker past the eleventh space, leave it on the eleventh space and lose 3 victory points for each remaining Time. Any Time Track penalties reached during the movement take effect immediately (p. 6; p. 7).

Can I move between different Land exploration tracks, or continue past a Viewpoint?

Explorers cannot move from one Land track to another, and an Explorer that reaches a Viewpoint cannot move farther on that track. The first player to reach a Viewpoint removes its token and immediately performs its action, forfeiting that action if they cannot pay its cost (p. 8).

Can I split a Navigation action between multiple Ships?

No. Each Navigation action may move only one Ship; its advancement cannot be divided among multiple Ships unless a Special Action tile specifically permits it (p. 8).
