Return 10 cards to the box unseen, then remove additional cards unseen so the deck size matches the player-count table: with one expansion — 2 players: 45 cards, 3 players: 30, 4 players: 15, 5 players: none; with two expansions — 2p: 80*, 3p: 50*, 4p: 35, 5p: 20 (hint for two expansions: you may instead form piles and remove piles as described). Shrubs are neither trees nor mushrooms: they provide slots for one card on each of their four sides (like trees) and have a permanent effect (like mushrooms); you apply the shrub’s permanent effect when you use the shrub’s bonus. (page 3)
