Lost Ruins of Arnak: The Missing Expedition

2023 · Expansion for Base-game

Lost Ruins of Arnak: The Missing Expedition

Players follow clues to uncover the fate of a missing professor and other explorers in a narrative expansion set across a multi-chapter investigation. The box adds two new leaders, two research tracks, and a variety of new artifacts, items, and assistants that change deck- and resource-building options during play. Content can be mixed into the base game for one-off sessions, or played as a solo or two-player cooperative campaign of six chapters, each with distinct rules, objectives, and achievements. Requires the base game and is compatible with the existing Expedition Leaders content.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

How do encounter cards work when I explore a site?

When you Explore you reveal and resolve the top encounter card for that site, carry out its immediate effect, and follow any instructions (some remain or are removed as noted); encounter cards also use story symbols that can affect the campaign path (campaign-rules p4; rulebook p10).

What do the story symbols on encounter cards do and how do I track them?

Story symbols mark story paths—you record those symbols to reach plot points and achievements, and when a plot point is reached you follow the chapter’s instructions for rewards or outcomes (campaign-rules p4–5).

How do the owl/eagle guardians on the Research track block me, and how do I get past them?

Guardians occupy Research-track positions and prevent normal placement/advancement there until you satisfy the chapter’s special conditions or use Research actions to advance past them; some chapters also let you advance a fog tile or spend specific actions to remove or bypass a guardian (campaign-rules p9–10).

As the Journalist leader, how do I write and publish newspaper articles and what do they do?

You place Preliminary Findings on your Journalist board during play and can later Publish an article to gain the published rewards (resources/actions) shown on your board—follow the Journalist setup and publishing rules for placement and timing (rulebook p6–7).

How does the Tree Temple idol chamber and idol stacks work (what do those idols do)?

Temple idol tiles are placed in stacks and the idol chamber has its own placement and removal rules—some idols grant immediate effects when taken and solo scoring uses specific idol rules; follow the Tree Temple setup and idol-chamber rules for exact placement and resolutions (rulebook p12–13).

How does the Rising Tide mechanic work in Chapter Four and what happens to flooded sites?

At the end of rounds follow the tide chart to move the tide token; coastal sites can become flooded and suffer the listed flooded-site effects or restrictions while flooded, and failure to meet rescue conditions can trigger chapter consequences (campaign-rules p24–25).
