Red Winter: The Soviet Attack at Tolvajärvi, Finland – 8-12 December 1939

A two-player simulation of the December 1939 battle around Tolvajärvi, where Soviet forces pressure Finnish defenders across forests, swamps and frozen lakes. Players command company- and platoon-scale units—Finnish ski troops, Russian machine-gun companies, mortars, tanks, anti-tank guns and support elements—moving on an oversized hex map at a 425-yard scale with 90-minute turns. The game resolves ranged combat, recovery, attrition from extreme cold, Finnish night raids and counterattacks through streamlined, classic wargame mechanics designed for moderate complexity and quick turns. Scenarios range from short engagements to the full 40-turn campaign.
