2006 · Expansion for Base-game
Reef Encounter of the Second Kind
This expansion adds new creatures, tile types and event cards that change the dynamics of the base game. Crown-of-thorns starfish appear and consume reachable corals, while blue shrimps can assist host shrimps in defending larger corals but act unreliably. Polyp tiles gain additional forms and rock tiles can alter their shape, affecting placement and connectivity. A deck of one-shot cards introduces varied opportunities: triggering special effects, introducing or moving blue shrimps, modifying endgame scoring, or enabling a parrotfish to eat its first coral. Players integrate these elements into the existing drafting, placement and manipulation of coral chains.

Tom7.2 Not a necessary expansion, but certainly adds a lot of changes both to strategy and chaos - albeit mildly and in a fascinating way. I enjoy it tremendously - see my review for more details...
