Terraforming Mars: Amazonis & Vastitas
Two new double-sided maps expand the Mars playing area and introduce new milestones and awards. One side adds thirty hex spaces, two additional ocean tiles and extended terraforming tracks to accommodate larger five-player games. The other side focuses on turning the northern wasteland into habitable terrain. Players place tiles, advance terraforming metrics and compete for milestones and awards on the new layouts, integrating the maps into the base game’s card-driven engine and resource management mechanics.

What is different about the Amazonis map?
Amazonis has energy bonuses, wild resource bonuses that provide any standard resource, and delegate bonuses that let you place delegates for free from the Reserve when playing with Turmoil. It also has longer global parameters and additional ocean tiles, cities/greeneries, and a Standard Project tile. (Rulebook, p. 1)
Can I place Noctis City anywhere on these maps?
Yes. Neither map has the Noctis region, so Noctis City may be placed without its usual placement restriction. (Rulebook, p. 1)
What happens when I place a tile on the central ice area of Vastitas Borealis?
The frozen carbon dioxide there is released, increasing the temperature one step, but placing the tile costs you 4 M€. (Rulebook, p. 1)
Which special spaces let me place a delegate for free?
On Amazonis, delegate bonuses let you place delegates for free from the Reserve. On Vastitas Borealis, the Viking 1 and Viking 2 landing sites provide the same bonus; ignore these bonuses if you are not playing with Turmoil. (Rulebook, p. 1)
How does the Geologist milestone on Vastitas Borealis work?
Claim it when you have 3 tiles on or adjacent to volcanic areas. Any tile covering a volcanic area may be marked with a gold cube until the milestone is claimed. (Rulebook, p. 1)
Do the new milestones and awards replace the normal ones?
The maps provide new sets of milestones and awards: Amazonis has five of each, and Vastitas Borealis has five of each. The rulebook lists these as the milestones and awards for their respective maps. (Rulebook, p. 1)
