Victory at Sea: USS Indianapolis 1944
Add a Portland-class heavy cruiser to a Victory at Sea mini fleet. Indianapolis served as Admiral Raymond Spruance’s flagship during the Central Pacific campaigns, supporting the invasions of the Marianas and Okinawa. In July 1945, she secretly transported components of the first nuclear weapon used in combat before being sunk by a Japanese submarine during training exercises in the Philippines.
