Wizard

A man-to-man magical combat game played on a hex map arena using cardboard counters. Each wizard has numeric ratings for Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence and selects and casts spells to attack, defend and manipulate the battlefield. Play uses a compact rulebook and a mapped play area; scenarios can be run solo or head-to-head and rules are provided for integrating these combats with the related melee system.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

Do I have to follow the led color?

Yes, if you can. If you cannot follow the led color, you may play any color or play Trump; Wizard and Fool cards may always be played, even when you could follow suit (p. 2).

Can I play a Wizard or Fool even if I could follow suit?

Yes. Wizard and Fool cards may always be played, regardless of whether you can follow the led color, and you are not required to play one when you cannot follow (p. 2).

What happens if a Wizard is played?

The first Wizard played wins the trick, even over Trump cards. If a trick starts with a Wizard, later players may play any card, including other Wizards and Fools (p. 2).

What happens when the first card is a Fool?

Any card may be played as the second card, and that second card establishes the color that must be followed afterward. Fools normally lose every trick, except that the first Fool wins if every card in the trick is a Fool (p. 2).

How does Trump get determined each round?

After dealing, turn over the top card of the undealt deck: its color is Trump. If it is a Fool, there is no Trump; if it is a Wizard, the dealer chooses Trump after looking at their cards, and the final round has no Trump (p. 1).

How are points scored when I miss my prediction?

An exact prediction scores 20 points plus 10 points for each trick won. If you miss, you lose 10 points for every trick you are over or under your prediction (p. 2).
