1822: The Railways of Great Britain

Players act as investors in rail companies and then operate those companies across a map of most of Great Britain during the steam era. The game stages recurring auctions that release private, minor, and major concessions in random tranches; a simultaneous "Lawsonian" bidding process lets players place and resolve multiple bids at once. Players buy stock, run trains (including a new Local train that serves its home station), route services to historical destinations for majors, and negotiate acquisitions of connected minors when owners agree. Gameplay balances aggressive expansion against conserving capital early in the stock rounds to preserve future options.

Two complete 3p, one incomplete 5p and 4p MRS plays Fresh take on 18xx… there are tons of fresh takes on 18xx, but most of them don't work. This instead adds an interesting layer of interaction to the basic 18xx, and it's not gimmicky at all: The result has a very pleasant flow.
