Coral Sea: Campaign Commander Series

A tactical-operational simulation of the 1942–43 South Pacific campaign covering New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. Two players command Japanese and Allied forces across an area-based map at 1:300,000 scale, conducting land, naval and air operations as they vie for ports, air bases and sea lanes. Play uses counters and event cards that affect reinforcements, resources and battle outcomes; cards drive events rather than serving as the sole game engine. Players gain victory points by occupying key locations and destroying enemy forces while the Japanese begin with the initiative and the Allies seek to blunt and then reverse the advance. Typical playtime is about 3–4 hours; rules are streamlined for an interactive, self-contained scenario.
