Descent: The Road to Legend

Players take on the roles of adventuring Heroes or the scheming Overlord in a campaign-driven fantasy setting. The game combines scenario-based dungeon exploration with an overland map, linking linked quests into an unfolding narrative across multiple sessions. Players manage character progression, equipment, and quest objectives while exploring modular maps, resolving combat and skill challenges with cards and dice. One player controls the Overlord’s monsters and events, while the others cooperate as a party to complete missions, earn experience, and influence the campaign’s branching story.

The most mythical campaing for any dungeon crawler. Really complex, but worth it. La campaña más mítica para un juego de mazmorreo. Muy complejo, pero merece la pena

Amazing expansion - the only way I'll play Descent. It's fascinating and fun - everything I like about an RPG, but with the rules clearly defined. Epic.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

Do I have to use the app to play Road to Legend, or can we run monsters manually?

Yes—the app is required: it runs the overlord role, manages monster activations, events, and the campaign/quest flow, replacing the manual overlord tasks from core Descent (see Rulebook pp. 4 and 13).

Can I target enemies through other figures or open a clear line of sight past obstacles? How does line of sight and range work?

Attacks require line of sight and must meet any range or melee restrictions; obstacles and certain terrain block or modify line of sight and range as described in the attack and movement sections (see Rulebook pp. 6–7 and 17).

What happens when a hero is knocked out—are they out of the quest forever or can they be brought back?

A knocked-out hero is removed from the map and is out of action but can be returned to play by a Revive/Stand Up action or other effects; a hero that is defeated is removed from the quest with the campaign consequences described in the rules (see Rulebook pp. 5 and 8).

Do monsters always perform every action listed on their card, and who decides targets and choices during activation?

Monsters follow the activation list and special effects the app displays, and the app controls decisions, triggers, and any steps that can be skipped or finished during an activation—players follow the app’s instructions for monster behavior (see Rulebook pp. 16 and 15, and the app integration notes on p. 13).

Can monsters move past heroes freely, and how do engage/retreat rules work?

Engagement and spotting follow specific rules: a monster becomes engaged when in contact per the rules, monsters move toward or away using the app-directed movement, and retreating/movement-toward-or-away follow the detailed movement and retreat rules (see Rulebook pp. 5, 17–18).

How do objective tokens, monster groups, and lieutenants work—can more monsters spawn than a group's limit?

Monsters are organized into groups with group limits; lieutenants and unique monsters are handled by the app and group rules, and you cannot exceed a group’s limits beyond what the rules and app allow (see Rulebook p. 10, and Act handling on p. 22).
