Players take the role of genre authors building a deck of letter cards and wilds to write novels for their editor. Each turn players form words from a hand of letter cards to earn money and score; earned money is spent to purchase stronger letters, special abilities, or victory-point wilds. Many letters grant effects when used, such as extra draws or score multipliers, letting decks become more powerful and enabling longer or higher-scoring words. Play focuses on optimizing word choices and deck composition over several rounds; an optional cooperative variant changes the objective to shared goals rather than individual points.
