Players take on the role of Neolithic villagers on the Orkney Islands, managing resources and households as the community grows. On each turn players draft cards and assign workers to actions such as gathering food, making clothing and tools, furnishing homes, cooking, cleaning midden, and trading with others. At the end of each round players must provide sustenance and shelter for their settlers, and new waste accumulates that must be handled. After four rounds, the player with the most points from well-provisioned and maintained households wins.
