Wayfarers of the South Tigris

Players assume the roles of explorers, cartographers and astronomers operating from medieval Baghdad around 820 AD. They send caravans and crews to chart land, waterways and the night sky, then record discoveries in a shared journal at the House of Wisdom. Gameplay centers on worker-and-resource management: allocate workers and equipment, upgrade caravans, and acquire inspiration from patrons. Points are earned by mapping terrain, waterways and celestial observations, and by influencing three guilds representing science, trade and exploration. The game ends when a player completes the journal track; the highest total of victory points determines the winner.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

Can I retrieve the worker I just placed on this turn?

No — you cannot retrieve the worker you placed this turn; retrieval restrictions prohibit taking back the same worker on the same turn (see pages 16–17).

Can I chain a die movement by wrapping around the caravan grid or stacking moves?

No — dice manipulation is limited to chaining along allowed adjacent spaces only; you may not wrap around the grid or stack movements beyond the chain rules (see page 14).

If I buy a Land/Water/Townsfolk card from the faceup row, can I use it immediately?

No — when you acquire a card you follow the draw-and-slide refill, return workers as required, and you may not use that newly acquired card on the same turn (see page 11; Townsfolk timing on page 10).

Do I have to pay ink-splotches to advance on the Journal Track, and what about the final space?

Yes — Journal Track movement must meet any ink-splotch requirements shown to advance and claim Journal tiles, and the final-space has special rules described in the Journal section (see page 7).

Can I spend Influence tokens to meet asset requirements when placing a die?

Yes — Influence tokens can be spent to pay asset fees or meet placement requirements during die placement as allowed by the rules (see pages 6 and 13).

What does the Rest action do — do I refresh dice and get the Journal die?

Rest retrieves workers and refreshes your dice; when you refresh dice you follow the die-refresh rules, including the mandatory Journal die gain described for die refreshes (see pages 13 and 15; general Rest summary on page 18).
