Tidal Blades: Heroes of the Reef
Players take the role of young heroes competing in a five-day tournament to join the island realm’s elite guards. Each turn a hero moves between locations, takes actions to collect resources or bonuses, signs up for arena Challenges, and times arrivals to maximize turns. At the Arenas players attempt Challenges tied to locations, while the Fold presents monsters to fight. Completing Challenges and battling monsters raises four traits—Focus, Spirit, Resilience, and Synergy—and affects standing on the Champion’s Board. After five rounds, contestants are scored by completed Challenges, trait levels, Champion’s Board position, and monsters defeated to determine the winner.

Dice rolling game with a mild worker placement aspect involved. PROS - Very nice solitaire puzzle, with just the right amount of randomness keeping it interesting. - Good thematical implementation. The theme makes sense and you can relate to it through the mechanics. - Amazing, gorgeous, fantastic art and production overall. CONS - Waiting for your turn is not fun and turns are longer than they should be, so the more people playing the less fun each player has. - It feels cluttered, the design has too many elements for how simple the game actually is underneath them. - The deluxe box has a stupid size and proportions.
There's a lot of pieces and complexity for the amount of game. But it was enjoyable. The theme worked really well.
