Players take the roles of opposing commanders, mustering troops and resources from faction-specific decks and resolving events tied to historical people and incidents. Play focuses on controlling three farmsteads forward of the ridge—Hougoumont, La Haye Sainte, and Papelotte—through card-driven maneuvers, combat resolution, and timing of reinforcements. The game is non-collectable and requires no deckbuilding: each side uses a ready deck, shuffles, and proceeds into short, tactical turns designed to emphasize asymmetric strengths and historical flavor.
