Pirates of the Spanish Main

Players construct fleets from plastic ship pieces and send them sailing to search islands for buried treasure. Treasure is claimed by landing and digging or by sinking opponents’ ships in tactical naval combat; damage is tracked on the ship components. Play uses reusable ship hulls, masts and crew/treasure tokens, and games are resolved with dice-driven combat and maneuvering. Components come in collectible packs that provide ready-to-play fleets, islands, crew and treasure, allowing players to customize forces and crew compositions before each quick scenario.

It's a cute 2p race game with some building the ships setup that promises a lot more with many crew and ships, but really delivers on only the basic elements of it's own rules in terms of balance, fun, and scalability. Has the most basic problem with a random packs game, of having tons and tons of ships that are not competitive with each other. ★ Art and components ☆ Innovative mechanics ☆ Handles 5 or more players ★ Good with different player counts ★ Low time between turns ★ Comfortable complexity ★ Re-playability ★☆☆ Enjoyment

I love the idea, but the game itself wasn't as neat as the cardboard boats.
