Heroscape Master Set: Swarm of the Marro

Players construct a modular battlefield by attaching and stacking interlocking terrain tiles, including new swamp and swamp-water pieces, then field armies of sculpted miniatures drawn from the set’s hero and Marro squads. Each unit has a movement value measured in hexes and moves up levels at added cost; falling from great heights can cause damage unless into water. Combat is resolved with attack and defense dice: attackers roll dice shown on their card, defenders roll dice equal to their defense value, and excess skulls inflict wounds until a unit’s life value is reached and it is removed. Scenarios use a points-based drafting system, and the set integrates with expansions, custom maps, and advanced rules.

    The best miniatures skirmish game I've ever played. This Master Set is structures around Marro figures, which feels a little limited for me, but may be more coherent to new players. PROS - Amazing terrain: absolutely no other game looks this good when displayed on the table. - Good-looking pre-painted figures. - Easy to teach and learn. - Simple atributes and powers system for the characters, with no complicated rules nor exceptions. - Simple movement and combat system: no need for rulers nor any other components. - High level of strategy with the possibility of bluffing and deceiving. - The possibility of creating an unlimited number of scenarios and variants. CONS - The almost inexistent distribution in Spain. - The fact that it has been discontinued for a lot of years, so finding material isn't easy nor cheap.
