Verdun 1916: Steel Inferno

Card-driven, area-based wargame simulating the year-long fighting around Verdun in 1916. Play proceeds in monthly turns that model the ebb and flow of operations and incorporate wider 1916 events, including interactions with the Somme offensive. Players allocate reinforcements, play cards for local actions or to score victory points elsewhere, and manage initiative as control shifts and the French counterattacks are represented. Includes an introductory scenario, two short scenarios for quick play, and a full campaign that fills an afternoon.

Very tense game about trench warfare in Verdun during WW1. The Germans are on the offensive trying to break through the French lines to capture enough Victory Point locations. The French is heavily outnumbered and need to fill the gaps where they are the weakest before retreating to new lines. I think this rating will go up after a while. Some luck in the combat, but not as bad as most other WW1 games.
