Ludoya's messaging system lets you have real-time conversations with other players. Use it to coordinate game nights, negotiate marketplace trades, ask questions, or just chat.
Starting a Conversation
You can start a direct message from several places:
- User Profile: Tap the message icon on someone's profile
- Marketplace: Tap the seller to message them about a listing
- Event Page: Message the organizer or other attendees
- Messages Tab: Tap the + button to start a new conversation
When you message someone, a real-time conversation thread opens and you can exchange messages instantly.
Real-Time Delivery
Messages are delivered instantly. You'll see:
- Sending: The message is being sent
- Sent: Successfully delivered to the server
- Seen: The other person has opened and read the message (if they've enabled delivery receipts)
You get a notification when someone messages you (if notifications are enabled). See Privacy & Visibility for notification settings.
Contextual Conversations
Ludoya embeds relevant information in message threads to keep context:
Marketplace Conversations
When you message a seller about a listing:
- The listing card appears in the conversation showing the game, condition, price, and photos
- You can ask questions and negotiate directly in the same thread
- Both parties always see the listing details
- Great for arranging payment and exchange logistics
Event Conversations
If you're messaging about a specific event:
- Event details (name, time, location, attendee count) appear in the chat
- Easier to confirm logistics without leaving the conversation
Play Session Conversations
Discussing a game you just played together?
- Scores and photos from the play appear inline
- You can talk about the game or game night without switching apps
The person you're messaging always has full context—no need to explain what you're talking about.
Privacy Controls
Who Can Message You
Control who's allowed to contact you directly. Go to Settings → Privacy & Visibility → Messaging and choose:
- Everyone: Anyone on Ludoya can message you
- People you follow: Only people in your Following list
- Group members: Only people in your groups can message you
- No one: Disable messaging (you can still message others)
Blocking
If someone is bothering you, tap their message → Block. Blocked users can't message you, and you won't see their messages.
Messaging for Marketplace
The marketplace integration makes buying and selling seamless:
- See a listing you're interested in
- Tap the seller's name or the message icon
- Ask questions about condition, availability, or price in the chat
- Negotiate and arrange payment/exchange in the same thread
- No email required—everything stays in Ludoya
Sellers appreciate being able to answer questions quickly and close deals directly in the app.
