Easy Mode is an alternative, less-challenging setup for new players; during setup you add 1 resource to each hero and remove difficulty-marked cards from the encounter deck (see the Easy Mode steps). (page 1)

Add one resource to each hero's resource pool during step 2 of setup, “Place Heroes and Set Initial Threat Levels.” (page 1)

Remove any card that has the “difficulty” indicator (a gold border around its encounter set icon) from the current scenario's encounter deck; those cards are removed from the deck for Easy Mode. (page 1)

The rulebook provides lists of which specific cards to remove from older encounter sets that lack the difficulty icon; consult the removal lists for the scenario's encounter sets in the rulebook. (pages 1–3)

After making the Easy Mode changes, follow the scenario's normal setup instructions (for example, follow Stage 1A setup) and then begin playing. (page 1)
